About

COMPANY MANDATE

What By When (WxW) builds sustainable scaffolding to support process-oriented approaches to live-art projects. WxW is a creative production management and technical direction firm that fosters diversity in practice, approach, and human beings, by creating and advocating for equitable, safe and inclusive working conditions, fair pay, and providing mentorship and training opportunities. We believe in and build holistic approaches to managing projects by learning about and supporting the individual humans who make them. We learn every day; how to manage better, how to relate better, and how the cutting edge of technology is affecting our fields.

MISSION STATEMENT

WxW has a three-fold commitment to our community:

  1. We build working models and production practices that are sustainable on human, and ecological scales. We need new ways of interacting with each other, with work, and with the planet.

  2. We hold ourselves, and the people we work with, accountable to the highest possible standards of transparency, equity, and safety. We are committed to listening, learning from, and responding to concerns from our community and colleagues. This is a daily practice.

  3. We work to increase the representation and power of BIPOC on projects we manage, and on our team. We do this through hiring, and through building constantly evolving production models that actively dismantle white supremacist ideas and power structures.

STATEMENT OF VALUES

WHATbyWHEN aims to never sacrifice safety, people, and process for the product. With trust, clear communication, and constructive feedback, we endeavor to create diverse leadership and continued collaborative growth in live events. We value organization and transparency within the necessary flux and discovery of art making, and the grace, time, and labour it takes to structure that chaos.
